I had the extreme pleasure of finally seeing Eddie Izzard live this past Friday (A graduation gift from my girlfriend). The show is called Stripped, it was amazing. I've been listening to Eddie's stand-up on Mp3 for years, so I know most of his shows backward and forward, but this was something altogether new.
Anyone who has listened to/seen multiple Eddie Izzard shows knows he tends to talk about the same things (Hitler/WWII, Greek Mythology, etc). Any while he did keep with several of his themes (History, and Religion), the material for Stripped was a culmination of his comedic work. I was somewhat apprehensive that he would have recycled a lot of jokes from the past, but aside from a few references, there was no joke recycling.
So apprehensions aside: Stripped. Eddie came out, not dressed in womens clothes as I'd hoped, but in a very dashing jeans and black waistcoat combo, and told the audience he intended to talk about everything that's ever happened. And he did. From the creation of the world, to Noah, to giraffes, to Moses. The show ended there, so I guess nothing has happened since. Intellectual, and silly, Eddie was absolutely on fire. His ad-lib skills were also in top form: when the microphone had some feedback issues, he played off it and just kept moving.
If you ever get the chance, go see Eddie live. And above all buy Stripped when the show comes out
